Biography of Steve Jobs Founder of Apple Company

Who does not know the business figure and inventor in the United States, namely Steven Paul Jobs or who is popularly known as Steve Jobs. The man who was born in San Francisco, California, United States on February 24, 1955, was one of the founders of the Apple Computer company which later became Apple Inc. Jobs designed, developed and marketed one of the first personal computers, the Apple II series, accompanied by Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula and others.

Steve Jobs was also one of the first to realize the commercial potential of a graphical user interface and mouse, which was originally developed at the Palo Alto Research Center by PARC Xerox which was later applied to the Apple Macintosh.

Steve Jobs Biography

He was born in San Francisco, California, United States of America on February 24, 1955. His biological father was Abdulfattah Jandali and was a Syrian scholar who later became a professor of political science. While his mother is Joanne Simpson, an American scholar who became a speech language pathologist. Jobs also has a younger brother, the novelist Mona Simpson.

Steve Jobs who was born with the name Abdul Lateef Jandali, because he was adopted by the couple Reinhold and Clara Jobs (nee Hagopian) from Maintain View, California, United States, then his name was later changed to Steven Paul. At the age of a toddler, little Steve was then invited by his adoptive parents to move to Santa Clara Country or Silicon Valley. In this new place, the couple Reinhold and Clara then adopted a baby girl named Patti.

Cupertino Junior High school and Homestead High school in the Cupertino, California area were places where Jobs studied. Jobs was even enrolled in the school's most popular electronics class. At this school, Steve Jobs' abilities developed rapidly, he then met Steve Wozniak who apparently also had the same interest as Jobs in the electronics field.

Jobs and Steve Wozniak had part time teaching jobs at the Hewlett Packard Company in Palo Alto, California that they did after school.

Jobs graduated from homestead high school in 1972 and attended Reed college in Portland, Oregon. But he only lasted one semester because he dropped out. He then continued auditing classes at Reed like calligraphy classes. Jobs once said "if I didn't attend a single lecture at that college, then the Mac wouldn't have multiple prints or even-spaced letters".

Jobs returned to California in 1974, just in time for the fall. Then he and Wonziak started attending Homebrew Computer Club meetings there. Jobs chose a job as a technician at the popular video game company, Atari. The main purpose of working there is solely to raise money to use for spiritual journeys to India.

With Daniel Kottke, his colleague at Reed college, Jobs made his spiritual journey to India. Jobs then embraced Buddhism, when he returned, his head had been shaved and wore traditional Indian clothes. At the time, Jobs was experimenting with psychedelic drugs and described his LSD experience as "one of the two or three most important things he ever did in his life. Steve Jobs married a woman named Laurene Powell in 1991 with whom they have four children.

The founding of Apple Computer

Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne all three founded the Apple company called Apple Computer co in 1976. Funding came from Mark Markkula Jr., a product marketing manager and semi-retired engineer at Intel A.C.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the two had been friends for years before finally agreeing to co-found Apple. Their meeting occurred in 1971, when it was their friend Bill Fernandez who introduced each of them.

Even though he was only 16 years old, Jobs tried to get Wozniak, who was then 21, interested in assembling computers and selling them. As Apple continued to grow and expand, experienced executives were hired to help manage its expansion.

The Apple I was the first computer introduced by Jobs and Wozniak. Then in 1977, the Apple II was introduced by Jobs and Wozniak to the public. And after its introduction, sales of the Apple II grew rapidly. Apple Computer Co. then introduced the Apple III in 1980, but the public response was not as good as when the Apple II was introduced.

As Apple Computer grew, the company looked for new leadership to help set the course of the company's development. In 1983, to lead the Apple Computer company, Steve Jobs decided to recruit John Sculley from the Pepsi-cola company.

In the same year, the Apple Lisa, which was technologically advanced and very advanced, was introduced as their company's new product, but apparently the Apple Lisa failed in the market.

The Apple company in 1984 again introduced their newest computer product, the Macintosh, the first generation of computers that were successfully sold in the market equipped with a graphical user interface. The development of the Mac itself was sparked by Jef Raskin and his team. They use technology not developed by Apple, such as at Xerox's PARC. Jobs then took over the development of the Mac, and made Apple abandon the Apple II. Mac itself is still developing its production even today.

But over time, Jobs discovered many things that were not in line between himself and Sculley. Coupled with the decline in sales throughout the industry towards the end of 1984 which resulted in disharmony between the two. In 1985, Sculley kicked Steve Jobs out of Apple.

NeXT Computer And Back To Apple

After leaving Apple, Jobs founded NeXT Computer, a company engaged in the development of computer software. However, even though it was equipped with technology that was classified as very sophisticated at that time, NeXT Computer in fact had the same fate as the Apple Lisa, less attractive to users in the market.

In 1996, Apple acquired NeXT for USD 402 million which automatically pulled Jobs back to the company he founded. After Gil Amelio's departure in 1997, Jobs and his teammates re-developed computers with advanced technology, namely the Macintosh, until now the Apple Mac brand is still being developed.

A lot of NeXT technology is used for Apple's development, especially NeXTSTEP which developed into Mac OS X after NeXT Computer was purchased by Apple. With Jobs' guidance too, sales increased after the iMac was launched. The iMac itself was the first computer to be sold commercially by prioritizing appearance.

Jobs finally resigned as CEO of Apple in August 2011, but Jobs will remain as chairman of the board at the company. The announcement of Jobs' resignation sent Apple Inc's shares down by 5% in post-closing trade. This decline is relatively small, when compared to Jobs' interest in Apple.

Steve Jobs Dies

In recent years, the health condition of jobs has continued to decline. Jobs took medical leave starting in January 2011. But finally, after struggling with pancreatic cancer, on October 5, 2011, Steve Jobs died in California at the age of 56 years. The funeral was held privately and simply on October 7, 2011.
